We start to see a series of contrasts in authority and faith. Jesus’ teaching in the synagogue astounds until they recognize him as ‘the carpenter, the son of Mary’. He gives the power of the Holy Spirit to the disciples and they heal many. Do we put up walls to God’s authority and power in our lives?

In Matthew 14 and Mark 5, two very different encounters reveal the same truth: while we struggle with uncertainty, Jesus’ authority is never in question. Peter hesitates to leave the safety of the boat, yet even the demons recognize Christ’s absolute lordship and can act only with His permission. The question is not whether Jesus is able—but whether we will trust Him enough to step out in faith.
